Dr. Myra Weiss’s approach to teaching MBSR to individuals and dyads (2-persons at one time):
- Assessment of individual and inter-personal dynamics.
- Create a comfortable, empathic environment that recognizes a person’s impediments to learning MBSR.
- Flexibility of methods in teaching MBSR.
Examples of Individuals Benefiting from Dr. Weiss's MBSR Courses:
- Parents with pre-school children: Are taught not to judge themselves harshly because they can only spend very short times practicing meditation. For example, 3-4 moments to notice breathing or 1-2 body parts, or one loving-kindness phrase.
- People who suffer sporadic high levels of anxiety are taught to quickly breathe to their feet. Those who experience anxiety and/or chronic or sporadic depression learn to Belly Breathe as a first step in learning to meditate.
- Co-habiting couples or any dyad: Dr. Weiss assesses individual emotional levels; different abilities for time allotted to practice; and, the dynamic of relational competition.
